Developing a project internationally requires method and commitment. Constance de Bosredon, Head of International for IDOL, shares three concrete tips with MEWEM to structure your strategy.

Developing a musical project abroad can’t be improvised. Several factors must come together for the adventure to take shape. In an increasingly competitive environment, it is crucial to structure your approach, to clearly target your priorities and to rely on the right partners. Constance de Bosredon, Head of International – Marketing & Label Services for IDOL, took the time to answer questions from MEWEM, the European mentoring program aimed at promoting women’s access to leadership and entrepreneurship.

Here are three key tips to lay the foundations for solid and sustainable international development.

Take the time to analyze

Even if you have an intuition, it is essential to take a step back and ask yourself the right questions.

Are there initial signs suggesting potential in a new market? Booking requests, fan reactions on social media, or other spontaneous indicators?

Does the data you have at hand (streaming, social media, playlist placements) confirm this impression?

And are the artists ready to get involved in this development? Because it cannot happen without their full commitment.

Concentrate your efforts

Developing a project in a new country can mobilize just as much energy and resources as in your own territory. So it’s essential not to spread yourself too thin over too many markets at once.

Define one or two priority markets and try to be present on all fronts: promotion, marketing, social networks and, of course, touring.

Keep in mind that international development is a long-term process. Move forward step by step, with precise objectives at each phase of the campaign that will open up new opportunities for the future.

Enlist the right partners

The people around you are key. If you’re working with a distributor, draw on their expertise and network. You can also enlist their help to define an appropriate digital strategy.

And don’t forget to call on your network! Always giving preference to recommended contacts with a proven track record on similar projects.
