The “Prix Joséphine des Artistes” is back for its fifth edition. After Oklou's win last year with her album Choke Enough, which French production will be awarded this year's prize?

The Prix Joséphine des Artistes returns in 2026 with a new selection of albums that challenge the status quo of the French music landscape. Conceived by and for artists, it highlights singular visions and powerful writing.

This year, the committee of journalists listened to 269 albums before selecting 40 works, deemed essential based on three criteria: sound quality, originality, and artistic risk. From among these records, the independent scene clearly stands out, with 58% of projects represented by independent structures or artists.

Gender parity is also progressing: 40% of the selected albums are led by female artists, compared to 54% by men, a sign of increasing female representation. In terms of styles, the selection paints a realistic panorama of today’s artistic landscape: as much pop as chanson (24% each), a strong presence of rock, metal, and folk (10%), electronic music (8%), jazz, blues, and soul (8%), as well as world music (4%).
