IDOL 2024 CNM international certifications

Each year, the National Music Center (CNM), in partnership with SNEP, certifies physical and digital sales made outside of France. In 2024, 237 artists received certifications, for a total of 358 certifications, including 303 singles and 55 albums.
This edition marks a significant evolution in methodology, in line with current industry standards. The calculation now includes listens from video streaming platforms. Additionally, a distinction is made between premium streams (from paid subscriptions) and freemium streams (free and advertising-supported), with a weighted ratio: 7 freemium streams are equivalent to one premium stream. The concept of “new release” has also been broadened, now encompassing singles and albums released in the last three years, compared to 18 months in previous years.
These changes aim to better reflect the usage of streaming services while taking into account the diversity of revenue sources. For that reason, it is not relevant to compare the 2024 figures with those of 2023.
In terms of musical trends, rap and dance / electro dominate the certifications of exported new releases this year. However, preferences vary by geographic area: the United States, the United Kingdom, and Latin America prefer variety / pop and dance / electro, while North Africa and French-speaking Africa lean more towards traditional music, rap, and afro. As for Belgium, its citizens have a strong appetite for rap and variety / pop, which account for more than three-quarters of the streams for certified titles.
