Job of the Month #3: Head of Digital Content Operations
Each month, IDOL presents a different job in the music industry. Actually more than a job, a person! Because behind the same job title, different individuals bring their role to life in unique ways according to their qualities, and the scope of their position in the company. For our third session, meet Amel Boughalem, Head of Digital Content Operations, who tells us about daily life in the Content department where she ensures search engine optimization of IDOL’s catalog on the streaming and downloading platforms.
What does a Head of Digital Content Operations do?
I supervise a team of seven people with whom I ensure the proper delivery, optimization and availability of IDOL’s catalog on all the platforms we work with (audio and video).
One of IDOL’s strengths is the high quality of our metadata, and I make sure to maintain that level: we have to comply with platform charters but also ensure good SEO on the DSPs.
Processes are part of the daily life of a supply chain, so I make sure that they are respected – by my team as well as by the other internal teams – but also that they evolve according to the new requirements of the business.
What are the qualities required for your position?
My department is structured in the supply chain, so we need to be very rigorous in order to maintain an exemplary level of quality: both in our exchanges with the internal teams and with the platforms.
We handle a lot of workflows, we communicate with both internal teams and DSPs while managing all the catalog output, so the processes must be optimized as much as possible. To make them evolve, I have to be able to constantly question my methods.
Can you tell us a little about your career path?
After my Master’s degree in International Business Law, I decided to reorient myself to work in the music industry. I went for internships abroad and did a specialized Master’s degree, then I joined the Content team at IDOL for my final internship in 2016. I have evolved in this department over the years and opportunities to eventually be promoted to Manager.
What would be a typical day for you?
I start my day by checking our common inbox to see if there are any emergencies in order to be able to prioritize their treatment within the team. I answer my emails and I try to optimize our processes, to create new ones by taking into account external requests in order to constantly improve our quality of service.
I keep up to date with the technical evolutions on platforms to benefit from potential features.
Of course, throughout the day, I answer the team’s various questions about the problems we encounter on a daily basis.
What do you like about your job?
I like to train my team on a daily basis, to see them progress individually and to see the service progress with the goal to remain the best.
The new platforms (Tik Tok, Instagram) also make my job evolve. I always have to be on the lookout for innovations in order to anticipate and respond to the new demands that arise.
Beyond this monitoring, I have to keep our level of excellence to preserve our Preferred Partner status with Apple and Spotify.
